This study analyzed 7,507 participants to investigate the relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) severity and coronary artery calcification (CAC). MASLD severity was significantly associated with subclinical atherosclerosis, especially in hypertensive individuals. Moderate and severe MASLD correlated with higher CAC stages, independent of traditional cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors.

A research looked at the relationship between serum sclerostin and osteoprotegerin (OPG) and Acute Myocardial Infarction (ACM) patients' prognosis and severity. The AMI group (n=92) had greater blood levels of sclerostin and OPG than the non-AMI group (n=60) in this research. OPG that has been Ln-transformed has been connected to MACE. Bone-related proteins may help with early risk stratification and prognosis evaluation in patients with AMI.

The effectiveness of conservative therapy in the treatment of pediatric intervertebral disc calcification (PIDC) was examined in 149 cases. A total of 109 patients had just one PIDC, 29 had two, and 21 had several. All patients received non-surgical, conservative care. After neck traction or collar fixation, all patients' symptoms disappeared. These findings indicated that PIDC can be treated conservatively.

Researchers examined 270 acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients with cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome and found that admission hypocalcemia was independently associated with higher in-hospital mortality. Subgroup analyses showed a stronger association in females and elderly patients. A dose-response relationship was observed. These findings highlight hypocalcemia as a potential prognostic marker in this high-risk population.

Experts examined 20,042 individuals with fatty liver and found a significantly higher prevalence of pulmonary nodules compared to the general population. Male gender, older age, lower body weight, and lower diastolic blood pressure were identified as independent risk factors for the development of pulmonary nodules in patients with fatty liver. These findings underscore the importance of considering pulmonary nodules in this population.

The association b/w infertility, assisted reproduction & cervical insufficiency (CI) was assessed among 2,662 women. Infertility increased CI risk in pregnancies with fertility treatments & no miscarriage history. No association was found b/w fertility treatments & CI in women with miscarriage history. Results help refine CI risk assessment for fertility treatment recipients. Risk assessment can be tailored for women on fertility treatments.

The importance of the cardiac arrest survival score (CRASS) in predicting the likelihood of good neurological outcomes following Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) has been verified. Only 260 patients out of 11,404 had an adequate neurological function. CRASS frequently overestimated the projected likelihood of favorable outcomes. In predicting favorable neurological outcomes, CRASS exhibited strong discrimination and modest calibration.

The clinical outcomes of the high tibial osteotomy (HTO) vs the proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) operation were compared using systematic reviews of 23 studies. As per result, PFO and HTO are equally effective in the short run for treating KOA, but PFO has the advantage of reducing the length of the procedure, intraoperative bleeding, hospital stay, and postoperative complications. Therefore, PFO can be preferred.

Experts examined 125 hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and investigated the relationship between albumin levels and osteoporosis (OP). After adjusting for confounding factors, low albumin was associated with a higher OP risk, particularly in men. No significant association was found in women. These findings suggest that albumin levels should be considered in osteoporosis risk management for male patients with diabetes.

Experts investigated associations between specific pregnancy complications & maternal mortality within a year post-childbirth among 1,237,254 mothers. Pregnancy complications in the most recent pregnancy (placental abruption, preeclampsia, preterm birth, perinatal death & gestational hypertension) increased maternal mortality risk. Risk escalated with multiple complications in recent pregnancies, emphasizing the need for close monitoring.

A paper published recently discussed the treatment of Cardiovascular Risk (CVR) in rheumatic and musculoskeletal illnesses. The European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) defined the methods that were used to create this proposal. Nineteen suggestions were made, including subjects such as CVR prediction tools, conventional CVR factors, and disease-related CVR factor therapies.

The Oarsi Rehabilitation Discussion Group recommended using an evidence-based approach, considering exercise in the context of living with OA & pain, conducting a baseline assessment with follow-up, setting goals, considering the type of exercise, modifying and progressing exercise, and individualized exercise, optimizing exercise delivery, focusing on exercise adherence, and providing education about OA and the role of exercise.

A study investigated whether bedtime snacks prevent high fasting glucose in 62 women with GDM. Over 8 weeks, no significant difference in fasting glucose levels or hyperglycemia incidence was observed between the snack and no-snack groups. However, LDL cholesterol and 1-hour postprandial glucose were higher in the snack group. The study suggests bedtime snacking does not improve glycemic control in GDM and may negatively affect lipid markers.

Researchers analyzed the neurological impact of mild SARS-CoV-2 infection using EEG data from 185 participants & 181 questionnaires. Mild cognitive decline & increased low-frequency EEG activity were recorded across all age groups, however, children and adolescents experienced milder effects. Results indicated enduring cognitive impacts, possibly contributing to anxiety, insomnia & neurodevelopmental issues.

Research found an 18% increase in alcohol-related deaths during the pandemic, with the highest rise in 2020-21. Alcohol-related hospitalizations also grew by 8%, particularly affecting younger adults and women. The increase was linked to higher alcohol consumption due to stress, boredom, and mental health issues during lockdowns. These findings highlight the urgent need for public health interventions to address this.

A study found that breast cancer patients undergoing breast-conserving surgery (BCS) had a better quality of life than those with a mastectomy. Younger and older patients reported similar well-being. Urban patients fared better than rural ones, while advanced-stage cancer patients had the lowest quality of life. The findings highlight the need for personalized care, financial support, and education to enhance patient well-being.

A study analyzed over 50,000 eyes using AI to map retinal thickness and its connection to diseases like diabetes, dementia & multiple sclerosis. The retina can reflect neurological and metabolic disorders. Researchers identified new genetic factors influencing retinal thinning, potentially aiding early disease detection. Findings suggest that routine retinal imaging could serve as a non-invasive screening tool for systemic diseases.

A study found that short-term exposure to high levels of air pollution negatively affected cognitive abilities, including emotional intelligence, self-control, and sustained attention. Researchers divided 26 adults into two groups-one exposed to high particulate pollution (via candle smoke) and the other to clean air. The high-pollution group showed reduced cognitive performance, which could impair decision-making and routine activities.

IIT Madras launched the Bharat Cancer Genome Atlas (BCGA) after sequencing 960 breast cancer samples from 480 patients across India. The initiative aims to bridge the gap in cancer genomic data, as India has been underrepresented in global cancer genome studies. The BCGA provides a publicly accessible database to aid researchers and clinicians in early diagnostics, disease progression analysis, and treatment development.
